How come some people get more out of their game than others?

So I'm playing in this match play deal. I'm watching this dude who is a 12 (supposedly) hit balls. Me and my partner are playing the dude. His was TERRIBLE looking. It looked like a snake crawled up his pants when he hit it. Then I watch him chip. It looked like he had one of those invisible fence dawg things on his neck and he got shocked when he started down. It was the most spazzed out looking thing I had ever seen. I'm sittin' there thinking what is this all about must be a vanity handicap.

So me and my guy are playing him and this other cat that is 4. The 4 plays like pooooo. And this spazznoid is carrying them. But we manage to win the front. Well on the back spazzerachee goes NUTS. 2 birdies and the rest pars and we're giving this cat 12 strokes. He shoots freakin' even for the round!!!! We kept saying we'll get 'em next hole . . . we'll get 'em next hole . . . we kept on saying it and ended up closed out 4 & 3 to goofy spazz spawn of Jim Neighbors. AMAZING!!!!

I gotta give this cat props. He chipped and putted like a freak of nature. He got more out of his talent than anybody I have ever seen. He putted with one of those broom handle jobbies. Made everything he looked at.

NOTE: I played with this cat the next round and he beat this other fool like a base drum. Hit a drive that went over 15 feet in the air. he just tapped it around and put that flickdid chipping deal on it. Closed him out early on the back 9 in singles. So it wasn't a fluke.

How do you figure out how to get the most out of your talent? This dude sure has. It was unbelieveable. Everybody watches me hit it and is like what's your handicap. I go 8. They're like what are you retarded or something? What's wrong with you? I gotta figure out how to think like that dude does.

I think you need to think like a scratch long before you play like one (unless you have talent coming out of your ears). Stop thinking about shooting a number and think about hitting good shots, and playable shots. Is playing too aggressive costing you shots or you are playing afraid you are going to screw up? Conservative strategy, cocky swing is what Rotella recommends (eagerly await your comments). And work on your short game until you feel you can get up and down from anywhere.
